While on patrol, an Alpena County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a wanted individual driving a mini dirt bike on Monaghan Point Road. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the subject did not stop.
The deputy followed the individual, at speeds in the 40s, to the area of Grand Lake Road where the subject drove his dirt bike into the Rockport Recreation Trail system. Deputies lost sight of the subject and started setting up a perimeter around the area. While in the Rockport trail system, the subject collided with a DNR Parks and Recreation UTV that was working on the trail and who was unaware of this situation.
The subject was taken into custody at the scene and transported to MyMichigan Alpena ER for treatment. No one else was injured in this incident.
